Everyone has stories to tell. Finding your own stories and being able to tell them in your own voice are great pleasures.
Over the past years, I've enjoyed working with thousands of students, teachers, librarians and parents,
sharing the excitement of storytelling, writing, illustrating, reading and making books. Both children and
adults often can't wait to tell their own stories once we get started. I love working with people developing
their own abilities, and it is one of my greatest rewards to hear comments like "I'm starting my story right now,"
or "I am going to make my own books!"
I have visited hundreds of schools, conferences and libraries internationally, doing writing, illustrating and bookmaking
workshops, teacher and librarian in-services, and as speaker at conferences of a variety of professional service
organizations such as NCTE, library/media associations, and IRA. My visits are active and participatory--I often don masks,
show photographs and do some on the spot drawing--all with the goal of encouraging the development of participants' own
abilities. Children and adults share and develop their ideas enthusiastically at these meetings.
I look forward to planning a visit and meeting everyone at your school or conference.

You were FANTASTIC! The ideas you gave the kids, your
humor, pictures, all helped to make a day the kids and
parents will long remember. My staff enjoyed hearing
you so much that we would really like to have you spend
a day next fall.

I especially enjoyed the motivation of the students
after the session with you. Comments such as 'Hey,
can we do another book,' or 'Could we write our own
stories now,' came readily.
